Payroll and HR integrations for headcount planning

Payroll is the largest cost for most companies, and the hardest to forecast from the general ledger alone. Timshal connects to 34 payroll and HR systems, so your headcount plan starts from the people you actually employ and what they actually cost.

Supported payroll and HR systems

Timshal connects to 33 of these systems through Finch, and to Gusto through its own connection. In Timshal, open New Data Source, choose the HR tab and click your system; for the Finch systems, Finch's secure connection window opens on that system's sign-in.

Gusto

Gusto connections are set up with the Timshal team rather than self-serve. A Gusto Primary or Full Admin applies to Gusto for Direct API access, then requests a personal access token from Gusto by email; expect that step to take several weeks. Once the token arrives, the Timshal team connects it for you, and you only do it once.

What comes in

After you sign in, Timshal imports:

  • Payroll cost by employee, including gross pay, employer taxes and employer contributions, from the systems that run payroll
  • Annual salary, hourly rate and daily rate for each employee, with compensation history
  • Start and end dates
  • Department, title, employment status, employment type, location and FLSA status, as dimensions you can plan by

HR systems without payroll

BambooHR, HiBob, Humaans, Namely, Oyster HR, Personio, Sage HR and Sapling keep employee records but do not run payroll, so they supply employees, compensation, dates and departments but no payroll cost. Pair one with your payroll system or accounting data for actual cost.

What does not

Timshal does not request social security numbers, deductions or demographic data. It imports what a headcount plan needs and nothing more.

Building the headcount plan

Your current employees arrive with their departments and costs already attached. Add planned hires as new members with a start date and salary, and the plan rolls up by department, location or employment type. Because the model is driver-based, a change to a start date or a raise moves payroll, taxes and every total that depends on them.

Connect the plan to your operating model and a hiring decision shows up immediately in operating expenses, cash and runway.
